
Tom is a Microsoft Certified Professional, Certified Knowledge Manager, Information System Security Officer, Gulf War, and OEF Veteran. He is an expert in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network, hardware, and software systems, including PCs and laptops, backup solutions, printers, scanners, and Microsoft Office and SharePoint applications. He is known for his pleasant demeanor, patience, knowledge, and professionalism.
In September 2018, Tom founded and started his own Court Reporting IT Solutions Firm, Geek-A-Byte, LLC. He saw a real need for higher support and compassion for court reporters. His patience and willingness to provide training ensure that the court reporter is set up for success. Not only does he offer this invaluable service, but he also sells court reporter-configured laptops. Tom is very familiar with and has worked with most CAT software, such as Total Eclipse, Case Catalyst, DigitalCAT, AristoCAT, and StenoCAT, and continues to increase his knowledge of court reporting steno writers and software. Since the inception of his company, he has been recognized once again as the go-to tech company for support and sales. His customer service and product knowledge continue to impress his customers. He is always there to support and assist in any short-fused crisis.
While employed at eVerbatim, Inc., Tom excelled at refining his technical skills to assist court reporters with their technical issues. Tom has personally built over 2,000 laptops configured for the legal reporting system. Tom also provides all necessary training and orientation to enable court reporters to complete their daily courtroom tasks. His thorough knowledge of system applications and hardware configurations has made him a valuable asset to his team. Tom is the director of technical support and quickly rose to this rank with his willingness to help and compassion in assisting customers in the field. Tom’s level of technical detail, knowledge, and customer interaction is superior. His empathy and patience are the keys to his success and have been recognized repeatedly.
Tom served on active duty in the Navy/ Naval Reserves from 1988 to 2013, where he received numerous commendations, including Sailor of the Month, February 1991, USS CONSTELLATION CV-64, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious & Joint Unit Commendations, Navy Battle “E” Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He was also recommended for a Commissioning at the United States Naval Academy.
In September 2009, Tom completed a 15-month deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” and Bronze Hourglass device, ISAF NATO Medal, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, among many others.
Tom retired (January 2013) after 24 faithful years in the US Navy/ Naval Reserves, all served under Honorable conditions.

We work closely with you to retrieve and transfer your CAT files, include/blocks, settings, and dictionaries. Every laptop undergoes a comprehensive 200-step configuration process, which includes:
- Installing all necessary steno drivers and essential software
- Removing bloatware
- Applying all Windows/Lenovo updates
- Disabling automatic Windows/Lenovo updates
- Ensuring all USB ports run at full power
- Preventing the laptop from entering sleep mode
On average, this custom configuration takes approximately four hours.
Once you receive your new laptop, our Court Reporter Turn-key Service includes a 90-minute orientation session to confirm that everything is functioning correctly and that your CAT software is fully configured to your needs. During this session, we will also install your printers and scanners.
Every laptop purchase includes 90 days of complimentary support, followed by a lifetime of continued support available at our standard billable rate.
